AS LONG AS THE GRASS SHALL GROW (Reflection Essay)
In the Story "As long as the Grass Shall Grow", i saw how important the Education for everyone, specially for all the children. Sadly to say, as i observe, they are a lot of people nowadays that has the same condition just like the author, that many children face the early awareness of poverty, that's why many of them, instead of attending school, they need to work at their young age, in order for them to survive and help their parents to sustain their everyday needs. Just like the child in the story, when the teacher asked him, "how far have you gone at school? , he said that he was only finished his third grade at school, and together with his companions, they were all too young to work. But the things that i admire to the child is that his willingness to learn; his desire and love for education. As a student, i learned that i need to value my studying, i need to love what i am doing, and i need to treasure education, because not all people has the ability to study, there were a lot of people who really want to go to school but they can't because of their financial status, or for some reasons. But me, i have the ability to experience education, i have given the opportunity to study in free, because of the TES or subsidy. Therefore, i will do my best to keep this opportunity, i will do my best to achieve high grades, and i will do my best to finish my study.
Another learning from the Story is from Teacher Helen O'Reilly. She has a great interest in her work, She is committed and full of passion on what she is doing. She teach children who are willing to study without asking anything in return. She devoted herself in helping children, she is literally a hero. As a future teacher, i want to imitate the characteristic of Ms. O'Reilly, i want to help other people by sharing my knowledge to them, by giving them the education that they need and deserve. When i become a teacher, i will dedicate myself in teaching, i will make myself passionate in serving children/people through teaching, and will take this opportunity as a big blessing. I believe that the good deeds that we do is like a seed which is someday become a tree with full of fruits of knowledge, because what we sow is what we reap. The learnings and knowledge that we sow to other will become part of their lives, and these are the legacies that has no expirations.
